To fill out an immigration form, first download the form from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website, then supply the necessary information, and submit it either online or by mail. Use Adobe Reader, which is a free program, to view and download the files, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Thoroughly read all Form Entry Page instructions and notices by clicking the corresponding form number on the table that is on the Forms page.
When filling out the form, be careful to fill out every field and leave no blanks. If you intentionally leave a field blank, mark it “not applicable,” suggests Nolo. It is best to use a computer to fill out the form, but if you choose to write the information by hand, be sure to use neat handwriting and blue or black ink. Keep personal copies of all documents in your application, including the application form and any personal checks, to protect you if the immigration officers lose or mishandle them.
If the form requires a filing fee, include this with the application, and make the check payable to “Department of Homeland Security,” states U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Include any applicable fingerprint fees in the amount of money submitted, but do not mail in any fingerprints. Immigration Services contacts applicants with information on where to go in person for fingerprinting.
