The Service Canada website has many features for Canadian residents, including applying for the Canadian pension plan, signing up for employment insurance, or making any necessary changes to current employment insurance. Canadians can also apply for their passports through the Service Canada website.
Service Canada provides information about benefits that are available to Canadian residents, including programs for people with a disability, seniors and veterans.
Residents wanting to sign up for employment benefits need to set aside 60 minutes to complete the enrollment application online. Residents should apply for benefits as soon as they stop working, even if they have not yet received their Record of Employment. Any delay in filing their claims for more than four weeks after their last day of work may result in a loss of benefits.
A monthly benefit is provided for eligible Canadians through the Canada Pension Plan retirement plan. Residents must have worked and made at least one valid payment to the Canada Pension Plan in order to qualify for the plan. The standard age to receive the pension is 65. Residents can take a permanently reduced pension as early as age 60, or take a permanently increased pension after the age of 65.
