The FBI requires an applicant to provide fingerprints by sending a current fingerprint card that also states the applicant’s name and date of birth. Since the FBI requires the fingerprints to features rolled impressions, have the fingerprinting done at a law enforcement agency or by a fingerprinting technician when sourcing the current fingerprint card. Acceptable fingerprints are taken via live scan or with ink, states the FBI.
Ensure the fingerprints are eligible by going through the Recording Legible Fingerprints brochure provided by the FBI. An applicant must ensure the name on the response letter matches that on the fingerprint card. In case the response letter also includes the last four digits of the applicant’s social security number, the fingerprint card must feature the full nine-digit social security number, recounts the FBI.
Lastly, pay using a credit card by filling out the credit card payment form, or obtain a money order. The payment must be exactly $18.
