The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, commissioned for service in 2015, is a single-seat single-engine aircraft. The F-35A is roughly 50 feet long, 35 feet wide and 17 feet tall. The F-35 has two internal weapons bays, six external under-wing hardpoints and one external under-fuselage hardpoint.
A 5th Generation fighter aircraft, the F-35 Lightning II serves as a replacement for numerous other aircraft in use by the U.S. Armed Forces and at least 10 other allied nations. The F-35 has multi-spectral sensors, interoperability and modernized avionics. The F-35 is designed in order to perform air-to-air, air-to-ground and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
