In society, the effects of examination malpractice include: a lack of confidence in students when students who are less prepared surpass the exam scores of those who exhibit honest actions during an exam; lessened significance of the exam scores; and a long-term nonchalant attitude among cheaters regarding fraud or examination malpractice. In addition, examination malpractice may lead students to commit additional acts of fraud or other illegal or immoral actions.
Students involved in examination malpractice may be underprepared for higher education, workplace tasks and job skills because exam scores that may lead to promotion or hiring do not match the students' actual skill levels. They may lack the education necessary to succeed in academic courses or work-related projects, according to The Educational Foundation's report "Examination Malpractices, Causes, Effects and Solutions." Low morale and questionable ethics in academia and later in life are also a potential result of examination malpractice. For example, students may not value the significance of exam scores because others who have cheated or mislead participants through examination malpractice were still given academic honors, awards, promotions or job opportunities without question. Examination malpractice can thus lead to a culture of encouraging those to get ahead through any means possible.
