Residents are to place their recycling items at the curb after 4 p.m. on the day before the scheduled pickup. Residents must remove empty containers from the curb by 9 p.m. on the collection day if the pickup occurs before 4 p.m. If collection is done after 4 p.m., residents have until 9 a.m. the following day to remove their containers.
The Department of Sanitation collects more than 10,500 tons of garbage and 1,760 tons of recycling material daily. It also is responsible for collecting garbage and removing litter, snow and ice on more than 6,000 miles of streets in New York City.Learn more about US Government
