What Are the Different Types of Burglary?

Completed burglary, forcible entry, unlawful entry without force and attempted forcible entry are the four types of burglary. By definition, burglary is the illegal attempt or forceful entry of a residence.

Completed burglary involves illegally entering a residence with or without force. Illegally entering a residence through an unlocked door is an example of a forcible entry. Breaking a window and entering the residence through the window is an example of unlawful entry without force. An attempted forcible entry is a burglary where force was used in an attempt to illegally enter a residence. A burglary on a structure such as a shed or garage on the premises of a residence qualifies as household burglary.
