What Are Some Details Surrounding the Disappearance of Stacy Peterson?

23-year-old Stacy Peterson was reported missing on Oct. 29, 2007, after she failed to show up at her sister's house the day before. Her husband, Drew Peterson, claimed that she called him that night and told him she was leaving him for another man. Her family disputed the claims, arguing that she would never leave without her two young children and that she was preparing to divorce Drew. They believed there was foul play involving her husband.

Stacy Peterson, née Cales, was born on Jan. 24, 1983. There was an approximately 30-year age difference between herself and her husband, Drew Peterson, whom she married on Oct. 18, 2003. They had two children together, a son in 2003 and a daughter in 2005. His marriage to Stacy was his fourth.

Stacy was supposed to help her sister, Cassandra Cales, with some painting at her home on Oct. 28, 2007. Police searched the Peterson home several times following Stacy's disappearance. Drew Peterson was a Bolingbrook, Illinois, police sergeant at the time but retired effective that December. Drew Peterson came under suspicion in the disappearance of his wife following reports from her family that the couple had a tumultuous relationship. Additionally, an earlier case that had been declared an accidental death, in which his third wife was found dead in a bathtub, was reopened.

Friends reported to police that they knew Drew Peterson possessed several 55-gallon blue barrels, and neighbors reported seeing Drew and another man carrying a barrel out of his house just prior to Stacy's disappearance.

Peterson was convicted for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2009, but further information to solve the disappearance of Stacy Peterson was never recovered. As of 2015, she is still a missing person.
