The country with the highest crime rate is Honduras, according to a report published in The Huffington Post. The rate of homicide is 90.4 murders per 100,000 population. Gang violence is rife in Honduras, and it is overrun with drug cartels, both influences contribute to the high murder rate.
The Global Study on Homicide 2013 found that almost half a million people were murdered in 2012, and most of these killings took place in the Americas and Africa. The homicide rates in this report are not related to any armed conflicts and are procured from each country's law or health authorities. World Health Organization estimates are used in the event that a particular country's information is not available.
