Florida does not have a state housing authority; however, a list of county housing authorities with links to their websites is available on HUD.gov as of 2015. All housing authority websites have contact information listed. To find a housing authority by telephone, call the state information center at (866) 693-6748.
A housing authority is a government agency that oversees some aspects of an area's housing. They often provide low cost or free apartments to low socioeconomic residents, called Section 8 housing, and maintain property standards for government-owned residential buildings. They may also be involved in community planning and development. Most housing authorities are funded and governed by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
