Police officers in the United States issue more tickets for speeding than any other violation, according to Findlaw. Speeding violations include exceeding posted maximum speed limits and driving too fast considering the road conditions. According to Statistic Brain, officers issue 41 million speeding violations in the United States each year.
The federal Bureau of Justice Statistics confirms that speeding is the most common ticket, though the bureau's most recent statistics on the topic are from 2008. The states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, California and Texas issue the most speeding tickets, according to Statistic Brain. Though the average speeding ticket costs $152, only 5 percent of drivers contest the ticket in court.
