Safewise ranked Hibbing, Minnesota, as the safest city in America, as of 2015, while Law Street ranked Irvine, California, as America's safest city among those with at least 200,000 people. Hibbing, a city of just over 16,000 people, had a violent crime rate of only 0.25 per 1,000 people.
Upper Providence Township, Pennsylvania, and Zionsville, Indiana, ranked second- and third-safest in Safewise's rankings. Safewise considered all municipalities with at least 10,000 people, resulting in a ranking dominated by suburbs and smaller cities. Law Street's ranking of big cities named Gilbert, Arizona, and Fremont, California, as the second- and third-safest cities. Forbes ranked the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in Minnesota as the safest large metropolitan area in the United States, but has not updated its rankings since 2009.
