As of 2014, you can view your immigration case status by entering your application receipt number on the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services case status web page. If you do not know your application receipt number, you can contact USCIS at their customer service telephone line. As of 2014, USCIS also offers case status updates via SMS alerts.
- Go to the USCIS website
Go to the USCIS website and click on the Tools tab in the options bar. On the Tools page, scroll down to the second section, called "After You File." Click on the link that reads "Check your case status online."
- Enter the receipt number
Enter the 13-digit receipt number provided to you after you completed your application. The receipt number begins with three letters, such as SRC, LIN, EAC or WAC, depending the type of application filed. Omit the dashes when entering the receipt numbers, but include other special characters if they are present.
- Click check status
Click "Check Status" to access your case.
- Call USCIS if you do not have a receipt number
If you did not receive or do not know your receipt number, contact USCIS Customer Service at 1-800-375-5283. They can provide you with the information required to access your case status. The automated telephone system is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. If you need to speak with a representative, the national customer service team operates during regular business hours.
- Receive case updates by text message
You can receive automatic updates on your case status by creating an account with USCIS. The text message alerts you when an update has been made to your case. You can view the update using the case status web page.
