The upcoming special election for the 85th District of the Oklahoma State Legislature will feature Cyndi Munson of the Democratic Party against Chip Carter of the Republican Party. The Special Election for the 85th District is scheduled for September 8th, 2015.
Cyndi Munson was unopposed for the nominee of the Democratic Party for the 85th District while Chip Carter defeated Matt Jackson, Amy Palumbo, and Ralph Crawford in the Republican Primary on July 14th. The 85th District of Oklahoma has over 33,000 residents according to Ballotpedia comprised mostly of White residents (over 80%), along with small Latino, Black, and Native American minorities. In the past election held in 2014, David Dank of the Republican Party defeated Cyndi Munson of the Democratic Party. However, the seat was vacated following Dank's death on April 10th, 2015.
According to her campaign website, Cyndi Munson is running around three primary issues including promoting state businesses, securing funding for public education, and improving access to social services for women.
As reported in his campaign website, Chip Carter has extensive experience in the private sector, having worked for investment funds, non profit research organizations, and national media relations. He also worked for Steve Forbes' 1996 Republican Presidential Campaign, where he pushed for a simpler tax code as well as a flat tax.
