A roster of inmates in the city jail is usually found on the official websites of the city's police department or jail division. Some cities provide an online inmate roster available for general public viewing, while others utilize inmate database searches where you can search for specific inmates by name.
The police department of some cities, such as Olympia, Washington D.C. and Shreveport, Texas, provide an online inmate roster on the cities' websites. The Olympia City Jail only lists the names of the inmates currently housed in its contracted county jail facility, while the Shreveport Police Department provides more information about the inmates, such as booking information, charges, arresting officers and the inmate's articles of clothing and other personal properties taken before being incarcerated inside the jail. The Jail Division of the Houston Police uses an inmate search tool, allowing the loved ones of an inmate to perform a search and get information about the incarcerated individual.
Most cities contract county jails to house the offenders arrested by the city police department. The Olympia City Jail inmates, for example, are incarcerated at the Lewis County Jail Facility, while the inmates in the City of Houston Jail are generally located at either Southeast or Central jails. An arrested person under the age of 17, however, is usually booked in the juvenile division of the police department.
