In the United States, every state operates an online service for residents to find their local polling locations. TriggerTheVote.org contains a directory of these state-run sources.
Each state-run website can assist in determining whether someone is a registered voter, and if so, which polling location that voter is expected to use. The personal information required to find a voter in the voter registry varies between states and may include the voter's name, address, birthday, or other identifying information. Some states may have a process by which a registered voter who goes to the wrong location may nevertheless cast a vote. Additionally, many states have absentee voting and early voting options.
