Individuals who are eligible for the Lifeline assistance program can apply at a Lifeline provider in their state, territory, commonwealth or tribal land. These providers vary by area, so the Lifeline support website (LifelineSupport.org) provides an interactive map and directory of Lifeline providers' names, locations and contact information.
As of September 2015, anyone with an income that is at or below 135 percent of the federal poverty guidelines is eligible for Lifeline assistance, notes the Federal Communications Commission. Additionally, participants in assistance programs including Medicaid, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, The Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, Head Start, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families are eligible for Lifeline. The Lifeline support website also provides an eligibility tool. Lifeline participants can opt for either landline or cellular telephone subsidies.
