During WWII, 124,079 U.S. military members were captured and imprisoned, 41,057 of whom were Air Force members whose planes were shot down. The Prisoner of War Medal is given to those who were taken prisoner and held captive while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The American War Library has compiled a list of all POW Medal recipients, and makes the list available at AmericanWarLibrary.com. The list is continually updated.
