A list of the correctional facilities in the state of Indiana is available through the Indiana Department of Correction, as stated on its website. The department provides a list adult prisons, juvenile facilities and work release centers.
Indiana has 20 adult prisons and five juvenile detention centers as of 2015, according to the Indiana Department of Correction. The state shut down a large number of juvenile detention centers, which are now empty or being used for other purposes. Most of its adult prisons are centrally located in the state, and most juvenile facilities are scattered through the northwest part of the state.
Indiana hosts minimum, medium and maximum security prisons. The work release centers may be part of another prison or stand-alone facilities designed to help transition inmates into society.
