A list of previous Surgeons General are available on the Surgeons General Website. Though the list goes back to 1871, the term "Surgeon General" did not come into use until 1902. Prior to that, the post was referred as "Supervising Surgeon of the Marine Hospital Service" and "Supervising Surgeon."
Accessing the list of Surgeons General is fairly simple with an Internet-capable device. Simply go to the Surgeon General website. Find the "About" header and move the mouse cursor over it. A drop down menu will appear. At the bottom of the menu, click on "Previous Surgeons General." The list provides the name, the picture and the time spent as Surgeon General. Clicking a specific Surgeon General will provide a detailed history of each doctor.
