To find more information about the U.S. government's disability benefits, visit the Web page for the Social Security Administration. Information about disability benefits is available on the Disability page under the Benefits tab.
An applicant's state government is responsible for determining through its Disability Determination Services agency whether an applicant is eligible for disability benefits through being disabled or blind. The DDS agency initially attempts to verify the disability through the information provided by the applicant. If this information is unavailable or lacking, the DDS can schedule a consultation with the applicant to obtain the information necessary to make a final determination.
