Applicants looking to apply for a work permit must file Form I-765, AllLaw explains. Only certain immigrants are allowed work permits. Those who have a lawful right to be in the United States or who are applying for an adjustment of status qualify.
The applicant must submit the necessary photos and documents, pay the required fee, and submit everything to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The form and instructions are available on the USCIS website.
Individuals filing form I-765 need to provide their name, contact information and other information as outlined on the form, AllLaw notes. Individuals who are filing to adjust their citizenship status do not need to pay the form I-765 fee. Those who must pay the fee cannot do so by cash. Individuals can only pay by money order, check, debit card, credit card or electronic funds transfer. Once the application is complete, it can be submitted by mail.
