Examples of victim impact statements are available at victimsupportservices.org and the City of Baltimore at crime.baltimorecity.gov. Both websites also offer some insight as to what goes into a victim impact statement.
Victim impact statements generally include descriptions of the financial, physical, emotional and medical consequences of a crime. Statements allow the victims the opportunity to voice their side of the story, and these are generally presented before a judge when it comes time to sentence the criminal, or before a parole board when determining whether a criminal should be released after serving time in prison. Victim impact statements are beneficial to the victims as they can often be therapeutic.
