It's possible to check the status of a Supplemental Security Income disability claim online. Doing so requires enter the claimant's Social Security number and SSI claim number at the Social Security Administration website, SocialSecurity.gov. Applicants must wait five days from the application date to check their status.
SSI, which is provided by Social Security, pays monthly benefits to people with limited income and resources who are disabled, blind or at least 65 years old. Applicants must be legal U.S. residents; either a U.S. citizen or national, or in one of certain categories of qualified non–citizens; and not leave the country for 30 consecutive days or more. Parents of blind or disabled children may also apply for SSI on their children's behalf. Funds for SSI come from the general funds of the U.S. Treasury.
