To check a Social Security statement online, go to the Social Security Administration website, and register for a My Social Security account. My Social Security allows members to view their statements, track their earnings and estimate future benefits.
To set up a My Social Security account, you must be able to verify personal information, such as your Social Security number, and have a valid email and mailing address. You must also be at least 18 years of age. Creating an account requires a Social Security number for the Social Security Administration to perform a soft inquiry on your credit report and verify your identity. However, this inquiry does not impact your credit score.
When setting up an account, create a user ID and strong password. To add extra security to your account, you can also create a unique security code. Once a status request is initiated, the Social Security Administration asks for information to verify your identity. Only the holder of the account should know the answers to the questions asked.
Aside from viewing statements, you can change your mailing address, order a replacement Medicare card and change your direct deposit information. You can also request replacement tax forms for tax preparation purposes.
