In some cases, local bankruptcy courts require people filing for bankruptcy to complete additional forms. These can be requested from local bankruptcy court clerks or attorneys. Some local forms and guidelines are also available online. The websites of local bankruptcy courts may also be found at the United States Courts website, or else at the website of The United States Department of Justice.
Individuals are only required to personally complete these forms if they are representing themselves in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case, notes NOLO. If so, they are typically required to file the completed forms in person, although some courts have an electronic submission system. In either case, the person filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy must file their petition either in the judicial district of their permanent residence, or the judicial district in which they have spent the preceding 180 days.Learn more about Debt Law
