How Can I Apply for Food Stamps in Georgia?

Residents of Georgia can apply for food stamps by contacting or visiting the nearest office of the Division of Family and Children Services or by completing the online food stamp application found on the COMPASS website. Applicants are required to complete an interview, provide documentation to prove eligibility and provide identification for each member of the household before benefits are issued. DFCS may take up to 30 days to approve the application.

  1. Obtain an application

Applications are available at the local DFCS office and online. Online applications can be printed and completed at home.

  2. Return the application

An online application is submitted automatically after you complete the application, but paper applications must be returned to the DFCS before an interview is scheduled.

  3. Complete an interview

Bring documentation along for the interview. Personal identification, such as a driver's license, and proof of eligibility are required. Proof of eligibility includes the most recent pay stubs or proof of income for everyone in the household, the most recent utility bills and rent receipts, and Social Security cards or birth certificates for everyone in the household.

  4. Return requested documents

If additional documentation is needed, return the documents. The DFCS can take up to 30 days to approve or deny the application.
