The Employment Eligibility Verification form is available at USCIS.gov as a PDF, and there is a Spanish version for Puerto Rican employers. The purpose of Form I-9 is to verify the identity of prospective employees and confirm their employment eligibility in the United States, explains U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
All hires, whether they are citizens or not, are required to complete Form I-9 as part of the employment process, notes USCIS. All new hires must also provide employers with approved identification and eligibility documents. Examples include state-issued drivers licenses, Social Security cards and passports. Some indirect employment agencies are also required to use this form.
