According to statistics released by the FBI, Detroit, Michigan, has topped the list as most dangerous city in both 2013 and 2014. Oakland, California; Memphis, Tennessee; and St. Louis, Missouri, have each finished in the top four in the last two years.
While overall crime is down in Detroit since 2013, it is still the most dangerous city in the United States, with 2,072 violent crimes for every 100,000 people. Oakland, number two in both 2013 and 2014, has 1,977 violent crimes per 100,000 citizens. Memphis moved up to the third most dangerous city in 2014, with 124 murders, 437 rapes, 3,133 robberies and 7,200 aggravated assaults. St. Louis, while still in the top four, has seen a declining crime rate in recent years.
