The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) offers Santa tracking updates in December on their official website, noradsanta.org. NORAD also posts updates on Twitter through the username @noradsanta.
The NORAD Santa tracking program began in 1955 when a Colorado Springs newspaper printed a Christmas advertisement that included Santa's telephone number. The number was misprinted and actually reached the operations center of the Continental Air Defense Command.
The colonel on duty chose to handle the influx of calls on Christmas Eve by reporting Santa's location to every child that enquired. The tradition carried on in 1958 when CONAD became the North American Aerospace Defense Command. As of 2015, the NORAD Tracks Santa website received nearly 9 million visitors.
