A 3D, virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel is available online at Vatican.com. From the home page, navigate to the bottom of the page, and select The Sistine Chapel from the list of Vatican-operated locations. On the subsequent Web page, click on the Start Tour button.
Virtual tours can be a good option for tourists who either do not have the time and money to visit Europe or who did not have sufficient time while on the tour to admire the detail and intricacies of the building and its artwork. With the virtual tour, users can scan around and zoom in to study the details.
In addition to the Sistine Chapel tour, the Vatican also offers five other 3D virtual tours examining the following locations: the Basilica of St. Peter, the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran, the Basilica of Paul Outside-the-Walls, the Basilica of St. Mary Major and the Pauline Chapel. All tours were created by the students and faculty of the computing science department at Villanova University.
