Buen Retiro Park is a historic park located in the heart of Madrid. Dating back to the 1600s, the park features a rose garden, several artistic fountains and an observatory for stargazing. One of Spain's more unique tourist attractions, the Temple of Debod is an ancient Egyptian temple that was transported whole to Madrid. Egypt gave the temple to Spain as a gift in 1968.
Many tourists are drawn to Madrid's renowned museums. The most prominent of these are the Prado Museum and the National Archaeology Museum. With over 5,000 paintings in its collection, the Prado Museum is particularly well known for its 140 Goya paintings.
