The Sultan Ahmed mosque is popularly called the “Blue Mosque.” It was built by the Ottoman King Sultan Ahmed in 1609, with construction lasting for seven years.
The city of Istanbul is called the gateway to Europe. Istanbul, formerly known as Constantinople, was the seat of power of the Byzantine Roman Empire. It sits between two continents with a bridge connecting the Asian and European halves of the city. The part of Turkey that lies in Asia is referred to as Anatolia, or Asia Minor. The legendary city of Troy is thought to have been in Turkey.
