Under Traffic Incidents, a traveler's map allows individuals to choose specific events, such as accidents, road closures and roadwork. A winter advisory is also available, but the highway authority disables it from April to October. When a selected problem occurs, an icon for it appears in the appropriate location on the map. Users have several map options; they can view the entire Thruway system or focus on one of the large metropolitan areas, such as New York, Albany and Rochester.
The traveler's map offers non-traffic information as well. Users can access information about traffic cameras, exits, travel plazas, rest stops, and park and ride lots.
The AM settings for radio traffic alerts vary across the state and are available on the Thruway's home page. The site lists Highway Radio Locations under the Travelers' tab. Roadside signs alert drivers to current broadcasting messages, and each sign tells drivers which AM setting to use. Lights on the sign flash when the Thruway issues emergency traffic information for that area.Learn more about The Northeast
