Rounding out the top 10 are the Texas Hill country, Fort Worth, Glen Rose, Houston and South Padre Island. Other sites list Austin and Houston as top destinations.

The Alamo is a Spanish fortress dating back to the 1700s that the Texans used as a military stronghold. The River Walk meanders through downtown San Antonio, offering visitors a historical view of the city.
New Braunfels is another vacation spot on the top of many lists for its outdoorsy options that include anything from tubing on the Guadalupe River to hiking through the Bridge Canyons. After visiting the animals at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, tourists can feast on authentic German food in the Gruene Historic District.
South Padre Island is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. This barrier island offers horseback riding and sand castle building lessons on the beaches. Tourists can go on cruises to view dolphins and other marine life, including one of the five species of sea turtles that use the island as a breeding ground.
