Thomas A. Edison and Henry Ford bought side-by-side properties in Fort Myers as winter escapes. Fronting the Caloosahatchee River, the two historic homes along with 20 acres of gardens are open to the public. Edison named his home the Seminole Lodge, while Ford dubbed his The Mangoes.

The Edison Laboratory, listed as a National Historic Chemical Landmark, and the Estates Museum are also on site. As of 2015, river cruises along the Caloosahatchee River depart daily from the Marina at Edison Ford.

The best time to see manatees at the Lee County Manatee Park is between December and February when the gulf waters are below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Fewer animals frequent the area during the spring and fall, and they rarely visit during the summer. Take a tour boat or rent a kayak to explore this non-captive refuge. Other amenities include a butterfly park, an amphitheater, concession stands and a fishing pier.

The Boston Rex Sox play at JetBlue Park at Fenway South, while the Minnesota Twins play at Hammond Stadium. Both offer the chance to see major league players up close. Games run from the beginning of March until early April.
