Lion Country Safari opened in 1967 and claims to be the first drive-through wildlife preserve in the United States. More than 900 animals from six continents live at the 300-acre open-air facility, including the largest herd of zebras outside Africa and the largest herd of Southern White rhinoceroses in the country. Visitors remain in their cars and drive through the park to view the animals in a natural habitat while listening to a narrated tour. The zoo also offers a camel ride exhibit, giraffe feeding area, petting zoo and bird feeding aviary, as of 2015.
The amusement park at Lion Country Safari includes a carousel, Ferris wheel, children's train, paddle boats, flying elephant ride and miniature golf. There is also a water park with a water slide and water play area for children. Dining options include a restaurant, snack bar and ice cream shop.
The Lion Country Safari KOA campground lets visitors experience nature by waking up to the sound of lions roaring. The camping facilities include tent sites, full-RV hookups and cabins for rent.Learn more about Geography
