Lake Placid is known as the "Town of Murals." More than 40 murals grace building in the downtown core, many of them fronted by strategically placed benches. More than 60 small parks and open green spaces dot the area, accented by sculptured trash containers. Pathways lead through the town, perfect for relaxing self-guided tours.

Florida's capital, Tallahassee, offers free tours of the capitol buildings. Self-guided tours of some areas are available, but guided tours are also offered with advanced reservations. Guided tours of the old and new capitol buildings must be made at least two weeks in advance. During March and April, when the legislature is in session, reservations must be made months in advance.

Admission to the National Naval Aviation Museum at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola is free, as is the parking. Vintage aircraft are on display, as are Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Aviation artifacts. From March through November, the Blue Angels practice on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, providing a free aerial show.
