What State Is VA?

VA is the abbreviation for the state of Virginia, located in the South Atlantic region of the United States. The state is officially known as the Commonwealth of Virginia, with Richmond serving as the capital city.

Virginia was one of the original 13 Colonies to participate in the American Revolution, with its first English speaking settlement established in April 1607 at Jamestown. As of 2013, the estimated population is 8.2 million with 0.5 percent of the population being of Native American descent. Virginia is home to a large number of U.S. Government agencies, most notably the Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Defense.
