St. Louis is located in Missouri on the Mississippi River. It is the second largest city in Missouri, behind Kansas City. Known as the Gateway to the West, St. Louis served as the starting point of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804.
St. Louis also hosted the 1904 World's Fair, known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, and the 1904 Olympic games. St. Louis is home to the stainless steel Gateway Arch commemorating western expansion, which was built in 1965 and stands 630 feet tall. As of 2014, St. Louis' major industries include automobile manufacturing, food processing, beer making, chemicals and aircraft/space technology.
