Southwest Airlines allows travelers to check in baggage with a maximum weight of 50 pounds and have a single carry-on bag plus a personal item. All overweight and oversize pieces of baggage are accepted for a fee of $75 per item, as of 2015.
Southwest Airlines accepts oversized items over 62 inches but not more than 80 inches as checked baggage. The acceptable dimensions for the carry-on baggage are 10 by 16 by 24 inches. The personal item allowed along with the carry-on baggage may be a purse, briefcase, food container, camera or laptop bag. Outer garments, umbrellas, food for consumption during the flight, child restraining devices and walking canes do not count against the personal-item limit.
The company allows passengers to bring small pets with them in the cabin to place under the front seat. Acceptable pets are dogs and cats, and they need to be in an appropriate carrier at all times.
Passengers are allowed to carry liquids in excess of 100 ml in their carry-on baggage when traveling internationally into the United States with a connecting flight. The liquids need to be in a secure bag and need to be purchased from a duty-free shop. Liquids that cannot be scanned, such as those in metallic bottles or opaque containers, are only allowed in checked baggage.
