While many assume that Africa as mainly desert, it is a diverse continent that sees a fair amount of snowfall away from the countries near the equator. Snowfall in Africa is rare, occurring in mountainous regions and in isolated incidences.
The most common places for snow in Africa are ski resorts in Morocco, in the small country of Lesotho and the southern mountain ranges in South Africa. In some countries with especially high elevations, such as Kenya, snow accumulates on the tops of mountains. Even areas with Mediterranean climates such as Cairo, Egypt can experience snowfall; this was witnessed in 2013 when the Middle East received a very unexpected snowstorm that caught the population off guard.
