The smallest ocean in the world is the Arctic Ocean at the top of the Northern Hemisphere mostly in the Arctic Circle. The Arctic Ocean is ten times smaller than the Pacific Ocean, which is the largest ocean in the world. The Arctic Ocean covers 5,427,000 square miles.
The Arctic Ocean touches Europe, Asia, and North America. Most of the year, it is covered by a drifting polar ice cap, but in the summer months of thaw, it provides sea trade routes, specifically the Northern Sea Route between Norway and Russia and the Northwest Passage between the United States and Russia.
