Subaru models vary widely in size and features, so there is no single rental classification for Subaru cars. In the United States, most car-rental companies consider the Subaru Impreza to be an intermediate-size vehicle; the Subaru Forester, on the other hand, is classified as a minivan or compact SUV.
Subarus are rarely small vehicles, but the most-compact models do fit into the intermediate specification. However, Subaru's SUVs are large enough to compete with most other small trucks or people carriers. Classification is a matter of custom and opinion, though. In Australia, for example, some popular models of Subaru are classified as full size, whether they are cars or trucks.
