Is Singapore a Country?

The Republic of Singapore is a sovereign country. Singapore can also be described as a city-state, as it is made up of one main island and roughly 50 smaller islands.

Singapore is located at the southern tip of Malaysia. It completely surrounded by water, but it is connected to the Malaysian mainland with both a bridge and a causeway. As of 2012, the population of Singapore is 5.3 million, and the total land area is 255 square miles. The four official languages of Singapore are English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil, although the government urges people to learn and speak English.
