Many airlines and travel sites seem to abide by the within two business days guideline for the receiving of a confirmation email. This varies based on who the airline or agent is, and a resend option is usually available if notified that an email hasn't been received.

Depending on the airline or travel agent the flight is booked through, most companies offer either contacting them via email or telephone to request a resend of the email confirmation and ticket. Many advise checking the spam folder in the inbox to be sure that the original email was not sent there first as a default safety feature of the email account.
