Some parks in Florida for seniors aged 55 and over include the Sweetwater RV Resort in Zephyrhills, the Vista del Lago in Bradenton and the Shell Creek RV Resort in Punta Gorda. Most of these parks include organized activities such as bingo, water aerobics, crafts, barbecues and other community gatherings. Parks usually rent sites by the day, week or month, while some offer seasonal and year-round stays.
Sweetwater RV Resort is roughly 20 miles from Tampa. The pet-friendly park has 289 sites and can handle RVs up to 40 feet long. Nearby attractions include Disney World, the Lowry Park Zoo, Sea World and the Florida Aquarium. Golfing and bike trails are available nearby, as are restaurants and shopping outlets.
The Vista del Lago has seasonal and year-round site rentals, which comes in handy for snowbirds spending the winter in Florida. Bradenton is also home to the spring training camp of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. Training begins in February, with the first exhibition games starting by early March. The park offers a shuffleboard court, a library and a waterfront pavilion and is close to fishing and golf.
Shell Creek RV Resort in Central Florida has its own boat launch and marina on Shell Creek. Fishermen regularly catch bass, bluegill and some catfish in the creek, either from a boat or the pier. Swimming isn't an option because of the alligators and other wildlife, but the park has a heated pool and hot tub that are open around the clock. The Fleamaster Flea Market, Ft. Meyer's Museum and Fisherman's Village are nearby.
