The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade begins at 77th Street and Central Park West and ends at 34th Street and Seventh Avenue, where there is an official viewing area and media platform. The parade lasts three hours and features performers, participants, floats and balloons.
At 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving, the Parade begins its 2.5-mile, 43-block route at 77th Street and Central Park West, travels south on Central Park West, and, at Columbus Circle, turns east on Central Park South. At Seventh Avenue and Central Park South, the parade turns south toward 42nd Street. At 42nd Street, it travels east from Seventh to Sixth Avenues, goes south to 34th Street and head west to Macy's Herald Square. The parade, which features dancers, cheerleaders, clowns, parade floats, marching bands and individual participants, ends at around 12 p.m. at 34th Street and Seventh Avenue.
The Parade route between 72nd Street and Central Park West and 61st Street offers the best views, while the city closes the route between 34th Street and 38th Street on Sixth Avenue and at 34th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue to the public. Many of the parade's signature balloons are inflated the night before the parade on 77th Street and 81st Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.
