To complete an expedited renewal by mail, send the renewal and all necessary documents in a secure package marked, "EXPEDITED." An expedited renewal requires a personal check or money order for the regular renewal fee, with an additional fee for the expediting process. The U.S Department of State recommends sending the complete package by two-way overnight delivery.
For an urgent travel situation, make an appointment with a Passport Agency by calling the National Passport Information Center. Most Passport Agencies require applicants to provide proof of their travel beginning within two weeks for any expedited service, and applicants using the Will Call service to travel for an emergency situation must always supply proof. Expedited renewals in person require the service fee for the expediting process in addition to the standard renewal fee.
In some cases, renewal applicants cannot request expedited service by mail, such as applicants who received passports more than 15 years prior. Those applicants can request an expedited renewal at an authorized passport acceptance facility if they do not have access to a Passport Agency.Learn more about Geography
