A map of Europe shows that Spain is located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. It is bordered by France and Andorra to its north, Portugal to its west and the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar to its south.
Parts of Portugal are actually south or southwest of Spain, but the majority of the country is directly west of Spain. Spain is also very close to Morocco; the 8.7-mile Strait of Gibraltar separates the two countries; however, Spain does have an exclave city called Ceuta, which directly borders Morocco. Across the Mediterranean sea, Italy is directly east of Spain. Since Spain is located on a peninsula, the majority of the country is surrounded by water.
